Wellness

What Is Wellness?

Wellness is about trying to find a balance, on a daily basis, between all of our competing interests, while remaining content, focused and at peace. We all lead very fast paced and complicated lives. We have school, work, friends, family, etc. They all require our time, energy and attention. Sometimes it’s difficult to figure out what to pay attention to first.

The Different Parts of Wellness

Intellectual

Am I challenging my mind? Do I search for knowledge? Creative, stimulating mental activities enhance the intellectual dimension.

Occupational

Understanding the contributions I make in this world, and achieving satisfaction and enrichment as a result, is the cornerstone for occupational wellness.

Social

This is the area of family, friends, and significant others. Are we happy with our relationships? Social wellness begins with an objective view of the people in our lives.

Environmental

Am I aware of my surroundings? Do I respect the world I live in? Do I take for granted all that nature offers me? Environmental wellness is based on the continuous awareness, respect, and appreciation for the world we live in.

Physical

Do I respect my body? Do I give it the right fuel? Am I abusing my body, or treating it with care?

Emotional

How do I feel about that? Why did I react in that matter? Awareness of my feelings or emotions and understanding them is key to achieving our emotional wellness.

Spiritual

What moves me? What beliefs drive me to be the best that I can be? What is my role in this world, and with the people around me? Being in touch with my personal beliefs and fostering them is key to the spiritual dimension.
